Description: Today the Sasanian palace is distinguished by the colossal barrel vaulted central reception hall, or ayvan, known as the Ctesiphon Arch, the largest examples in the world of such an arch, built without centering. The great parabolic barrel vault is nearly 35 meters high with a span of over 25 meters and a length of some 50 meters.
