Education and Pedagogy

Some ECAI collaborators are particularly interested in the use of interoperable GIS and web-based technologies as resources for classroom use.

  • Linda Everstz and the Interactive University at UC Berkeley endeavor to bring ECAI resources into elementary school and high school curricula. ECAI projects for pre-college students have included the Virtual Island, a digital curriculum on Korean history, and a role in Dr. Everstz's MA teacher training course at Dominican University, which introduces teachers to web-based resources for their classrooms.
  • Many ECAI collaborators are interested in exploring how to make ECAI compatible projects useful not only to scholars, but also, though virtual site tours, targeted readings, and lesson plans, to college students as well. The Center for the Analysis of Sacred Space (CASS), based at UC Santa Barbara, is leading the way in this work.
  • The UC Berkeley Intructional Technology Program encourages Berkeley faculty to use technology to improve instruction. Howie Xiao Lan, the ITP liaison to ECAI, assists primarily with multilingual applications for ECAI projects.
