ePublications

ECAI, in collaboration with the California Digital Library eScholarship project, is endeavoring to define scholarly publication for the digital age. We believe that much academic work in the humanities, social sciences and history can best be presented to colleagues, students and the public by utilizing web-based technologies and spatial visualization through GIS.

To this end, we are developing standards and processes for creating digital scholarly prefaces and bibliographies, and conducting peer reviews of the technical architecture and the scholarly content of selected ECAI-affiliated projects. We pledge that the published projects are stable and perpetually available to anyone who wishes to use them, just as a book in a library is.

ECAI welcomes publication submissions from any affiliate. A number of guides have been created to identify the differences between a project and a publication, outline the publication process, identify the requirements for creating a publication and detail the publication submission guidelines. We are entering into a dialogue with university administrators to ensure that ECAI publications are just as acceptable as books and articles to the people who make hiring and tenure decisions. In this way, we hope to create a climate that allows young scholars to publish in the medium that is most meaningful and intellectually exciting to them.
