ECAI is a community of affiliates who share the vision of a virtual library of humanities computing projects with a map based interface.

We welcome the participation of individuals who have digital projects to link with the Cultural Atlas: archivists, librarians and curators; historians, humanists and social scientists; members of non-governmental organizations or government agencies. Any web-based project that includes spatial and temporal data has the potential for interoperability with ECAI. If you want to learn more about making your project visible in the metadata clearinghouse and through the TimeMap™ interface, please see the Step-by-Step Guide to Creating an ECAI Dataset.

We also welcome participation from people with technical expertise or research interests in GIS, information science, and other relevant fields.

If you are interested in being involved with ECAI but you do not fit one of these categories, please see Participating for other opportunities.

If you become an ECAI affiliate:

  • Your name and your project will be listed in our database, allowing other members of the community to browse your work in progress.
  • You will have the opportunity to attend conferences, training sessions, interim workshops and meetings.
  • You may apply for technical assistance in project development, and for support to attend conferences, subject to the availability of resources.

If you would like to become an ECAI affiliate, please contact ecai@berkeley.edu. If you send a description of your project or your area of technical expertise, we will work with you to determine how you can participate.
