        Traditional Boat Launching - August 2004

Rituals the day prior to a traditional 10 man boat launching in Yeh-yu Village Orchid Island (Lan-yu), Taiwan, August 6th, 2004. Filmed by David Blundell.

Elder men sing to recount their journey through life, to celebrate the launching a community built 10 man boat. It took years of planning with the women to grow the Taro and raise the pigs as an offering to the boat. From a breadfruit tree cut into 27 planks the boat was built with a single axe.
