Legend management
: click on the boxes in the legend to turn layers off and on, and click on the triangles to expand the legend for more information about cartographic rendering.

Moving around the map: use the magnifying glasses to zoom in and out, and the hand to pan. Use the arrow to view attribute tables associated with each layer, as well as web links. In this map, the Hindi Documents by Place layer has links to the Hindi documents retrieved for the exercise.

Using the time bar: The Hindi Documents by Place layer is also time-enabled. Click and slide either end of the time bar (pink band) to narrow or expand the time range and see the appearance of the Hindi BBC articles (represented by red squares) by the date of each article. The represented location for each document is based on a location referenced in the article. The time range can be refined to the day. More information about this feature, see http://ecai.org/imls2002/hindi/Mapspace_Timebar.html.

Animation: use the clock button to create a dynamic animation of the map. More information about this feature, see http://ecai.org/imls2002/hindi/Mapspace_animation.html.
