2.0 TimeMap Software Installation

Follow these simple instructions to download and install the TimeMap software.

  1. From the ECAI TimeMap page, click Download TimeMap.

  2. You can either open the setup files directly from our server by choosing Open, or you can download the setup files to your computer by choosing Save.

  3. The next step depends on your choice in the previous step.

If you choose to Open the setup files from the server
If you choose to Save the setup files to your computer (generally faster)
The setup files will begin to download

Save the file to a temporary directory, or another directory of your choice.

Once saved you will see the TimeMap.exe icon. The build number may not be the same. Double click the icon.

  1. The TimeMap application is a self-extracting file. When you see this screen, click OK to proceed with the installation.

  2. Direct the installation to Extract To: C:\Program Files\TimeMap, or a directory of your choice. This is the location in which the installation setup files for TimeMap will be installed.

Note: In some cases we've found that the setup files do not extract properly at this point. Instead of getting a Setup.exe file loaded in the specified directory, a file titled timemap_buildxxx.zip is loaded, in which "xxx" refers to the software build number. This is a bug that we are working to remedy. The timemap_buildxxx.zip file contains all the setup files and must be extracted using a compression/decompression utility like WinZip or Stuffit. If at this point in the installation you see the timemap_buildxxx.zip file instead of the Setup.exe file, use one of the compression utility to decompress the zipped file into the Extract to: directory attempted previously. You will then see a Setup.exe file.

  3. Double click Setup.exe to install TimeMap. The TimeMap installation is a number of steps. Clicking Next at each step will take you through the installion. Choose Cancel to terminate the installation.

When you get to the Choose Destination Location screen, choose the directory for in which the TimeMap software will be installed. Choose the C:\Program Files\TimeMap as the destination directory by clicking Next, or click Browse to choose a different directory.

  4. Once installed, the TimeMap directory will include all the applications built into the TimeMap software suite, including:TMView, TMEdit, TMGeoreg, and TMLocate, as well as the MapObjects Runtime, and sample map resources.

  5. In order to view ECAI ePublication maps, you must install the map resource packet for each ePublication.
