ECAI Austronesia

ECAI Austronesia is an ongoing mapping process based on language and culture. The progress of the ECAI Austronesia Team has been significantly assisted by multiple grants by the University of California Berkeley Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines Endowment Fund to David Blundell and Michael Buckland.

Orchid Island Cultural Atlas

Orchid Island (Lan-yu in Mandarin) is a small inhabited Island of the Southeast coast of Taiwan. Our 2004 research included documenting the construction of a traditional 10 man boat.

Batanes Cultural Atlas
This project deals with language and culture of the Batanes, the northern island province of the Philippines.

Taiwan Project
The ECAI Austronesian Team members have been developing information on Austronesian Taiwan.

Formosan Language Demo
A Formosan and Yami Language demonstration mapspace is now available. The demo shows the possibilities for navigating from language map to related web sources.

Cebuano Project
The Austronesian Team is participating in a collaboration with the ECAI central team, the IMLS project team, and the School of Information Management and Systems at UC Berkeley to develop a resource on the Cebuano language of the Philippines.

ECAI Pacific Language Mapping
This digital linguistic and cultural atlas of the Pacific languages is based on the UNESCO initiated Language Atlas of the Pacific Area (Wurm and Hattori 1981 and 1983).
