Multilingual Issues and the ECAI Technical Architecture (May 23, 11 am)

Susan Stone
Museum Informatics Project, University of California, Berkeley
Leader, ECAI Multilingual Team

This work session will continue the discussion begun in Sydney in 2001 on handling multiple languages and scripts in ECAI projects under the ECAI technical architecture. We will attempt to determine the next steps we need to take and to identify individuals willing to participate in the work required to further our goals.Specific areas to be discussed include adding Unicode support to ECAI's TimeMap software, implications of multilingual data for our metadata clearinghouse, using multilingual data in ECAI publications, and relevant international standards. Participants are also invited to discuss additional areas that ECAI needs to explore and opportunities for panels at future conferences that will further our understanding of multilingual issues and solutions.
