Antonella Guidazzoli, CINECA VisIT Lab
Sofia Pescarin, Maurizio Forte, CNR ITABC VHLab
Mauro Felicori, Comune di Bologna
Roberto Grossele, Parco Regionale Veneto del Delta del Po

The development of the technology – in terms of both hardware and software – allowed in most recent years the construction of new kind of applications that can be placed in the panorama of Virtual Reality. ith this new applications it’s possible to integrate different technologies, different methodologies, different data.

Edutainment is one of the most recent key-words. This new concept, that is a trick between the word educational and entertainment, is at the base of many VR applications.

Data acquisition and postprocessing, used in an integrated way, increment the value of data documentation, representation and interpretation. They have a key role in the process that passes through the construction of a GIS project and leads to the creation of Landscape Virtual Museums.
Different methodologies and techniques will be analysed, together with the different VR applications that have been developed by both Italian CNR ITABC and CINECA Supercomputing Centre, through some important case studies such as: Aksum project (Ethiopia), Appia Park project (Rome, Italy), Virtual Museum of the landscape of Po River Delta (Italy) and the Digital Museum of the Certosa of Bologna (Italy).
