EVOLVING STRATEGIES: PROJECTS OF THE UCLA CVRLab

Dean Abernathy and Chris Johanson, University of California-Los Angeles

A general overview of UCLA Cultural Virtual Reality Lab projects provides insight into the changing pallet of tools and technologies employed in visualization. Initial CVRLab projects had specific goals which were addressed by developing a generalized strategy for digital reconstructions. This strategy, modeled on architectural and archaeological traditions, successfully produced digital versions of the traditional building reconstruction. As visualization goals, resources and techniques have expanded in recent years, the traditional-based reconstruction strategies proved to be limited. Modeling activities have moved from the lab into the field.
