“Design, Implementation, and Integration issues for Gazetteer Projects”
Linda Hill, University of California, Santa Barbara

At the beginning of the meeting, I will introduce (briefly) a categorization scheme—essentially a set of high-level bins—to help us separate different parts of the gazetteer design, implementation, and integration issues that come up during the workshop from presentations and discussion. The goal is to give us a common framework to think about the issues and some common terminology to discuss them. As a summation of the workshop, we will use the categories to organize the issues and ideas that have been discussed and come to some consensus about the key points for the current project. I will also summarize the current state of Alexandria Digital Library (ADL) gazetteer development and relate how the content standard, feature type thesaurus, user interface design, and networking framework relate to the requirements of the ECAI Religious Atlas.
