The Place of Time and Spatial Data in the Information System
"Oriental Studies" and its integration into ISIR RAS

The aim of building the Information System "Oriental Studies" is in digitalising, treating and transferring the information on the Oriental historical objects (sources) that are kept in various depositaries in Russia: libraries, archives, museums, in the field, etc.

The Information System "Oriental Studies" is built as the essential part of the Integrated System of Information Resources of Russian Academy of Sciences. The concept of digital copy of Oriental Historical Object forms the conceptual base of the Information System "Oriental Studies". In its turn, this concept is built on the base of Multilayer Hypertext Model.

One of the main features of description of Oriental Historical Object is time and spatial data. That is why the usage of the GIS methodology is one of the main tools of building the Information System "Oriental Studies".
