![]() Sydney offers the full range of accommodation types ranging from the extraordinarily elegant Observatory Hotel to dormitory accommodation in local guest houses. We have reserved rooms at two small hotels within easy walking distance of the University - Billabong Gardens and Noah Lodge. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Book online through the Conference Registration page. Billabong Gardens and Noah Lodge offer friendly, clean and comfortable accommodation somewhere between the standard of the hostel used for the ECAI meeting in London and the Salisbury in Hong Kong; we hope most ECAI members will stay in these recommended, economical establishments to promote networking. You will find the room rates pleasingly low and excellent value for Sydney. We have also negotiated special rates with the Southern Cross group, who have four-to-five star apartments in lovely locations around Sydney. For proximity to the University, we would recommend the Medina Executive - Sydney Central (the very last one on the page), with Studio apartments for $160/night, and 1 bedroom apartments for $198/night for up to 2 people. Friendly, recently built budget hotel set around a courtyard garden with pocket handkerchief pool. In a quiet back street 50 metres from King Street, one of the restaurant and pub hubs of Sydney. Limited off-street parking. Medium size rooms with one double and one single bed, bar fridge, television, coffee making facilities. Good kitchen and laundry facilities, BBQ in garden, common room with free Internet access. Twin rooms with en-suite bathroom and balconies (A$88), twin rooms with shared facilities (A$66), also some singles (already booked). If you don't mind sharing the corridors with the odd backpacker and want to be able to stagger out for a cocktail or meal at any time, this is the place to be. Nice atmosphere. Brand new and spotless, with a function room , a pleasant bar/restaurant area and a (noisy) rooftop courtyard. Special conference rate for single occupancy with breakfast A$79. Offstreet secure parking. All rooms have en-suite with shower, A/C, phone, television, video, bar fridge and coffee-making facilities, modem jack, hairdryers. Be warned that the rooms are comfortable but very 'cosy' (read small). Elsewhere, Alishan Guest House on Glebe Point Road offers groups of up to 20 people 4- to 6-person rooms for AUD30-35 per night. A more romantic experience can be had at Trickett's Luxury Bed and Breakfast on Glebe Point Road - no television, no credit cards, no website. You can call them on +61 2 9552 1141 or book through one of the online services. Other possibilities are the Centra Hotel in Camperdown (approx. A$140 for single, double or triple) A great site to explore accommodation options is www.travel.com.au. Or try Yahoo, AltaVista, or Excite's Australian sites. |
